It’s Called ‘Sick Leave’ But You Can’t Use It
I wrote a letter to the editor in the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper for Waterbury, CT on Jan 21st. There was to be legislation to mandate sick time. I guess last time it failed but I mentioned that they should pass a law that all sick time be available the first day you’re sick. | Read More

Breaking my back just to make ends meet.
I was hired as a part time door greeter in 2007.That was fine because I am disabled. In early 2008, my husband was laid off at his decent paying job and got on at Wal-Mart part time. Because of his age and the hours and pay from Wal Mart, he had to take early Social Security. Before, he was getting at least 24 hours, but since October Wal-Mart has constantly cut his hours. This week he got 11 hours. It is hardly worth his time for that, but we need it to pay bills. | Read More

Sent From One Manager to Another About Reduced Hours
When I suffered a repetitive stress injury after 3 years working as Wal-Mart cashier, I was warned not to file a workman’s comp claim, and the store began to set me up to be fired. | Read More

Wal-Mart’s In-House Insurance Deceives Employee Expecting A Child
I have worked for Wal-Mart for 13 years. The first several years I contributed money from every paycheck for health insurance coverage. In 1998 I became pregnant and was due around the middle of August. I knew that with 4 children at home I would not return to my full time status to be able to keep my same coverage. | Read More

You are not allowed to get sick…
I used to work for Walmart Store #1037 in summerville SC, I was recently terminated (Nov 29th 2008) because I was 1 to 3 minutes slate 3 times in 8 months. This store has issues with how they treat employees. Even though I was a Lawn and Garden sales associate, I was forced to push carts in the rain on many occasions and I was forced to use a fork lift that was unsafe to operate and without a spotter (which is company policy). I pulled the tendon in my leg pushing carts and when I asked to go to the doctor, I was written up for it because management said it was my fault. After I was written up, I was told by store management "YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GET SICK". | Read More

‘If Sam Walton Were Here Today… He Would Probably Shut The Doors Forever’
If I did not need this job, I would not work another day for Wal-Mart. In my store there is favoritism big time. I have been there for two years, and still don't make enough money to feed a family. There are many nights and days that I go hungry so the rest of the family can eat. | Read More

The Effects of Wal-Mart’s ‘Family First’ Policy
I worked for Wal-Mart about 15 years ago... part time to supplement our income when my three girls were small. It seemed a perfect fit; [the store] was located close to home and we supported Wal-Mart with much of our shopping (diapers, kids’ clothes, toiletries, etc). When Wal-Mart came to town they paid just slightly better than other retailers and they were sought after by many as an employer. During the holiday rush, one of my girls became ill with a flu that nearly hospitalized her. | Read More

Managers Messed With The Time Clock, Allowed Dust Problem In Store To Continue
I am a former Wal-Mart employee. I worked for Wal-Mart for 7 ½ years as an overnight stocker with a final hourly wage of $12.32. My 40 cent/hour yearly raise didn't even come close to covering the increases in cost of living and health insurance and gasoline and heating oil. Every year it seemed they wanted us to work harder and harder and more shorthanded all the time for less money. | Read More

Fighting Her Foot Recovery Every Step Of The Way
I worked for the Wal-Mart in Show Low, Arizona for 15 years. I was the Dept. Manager of Hardware, Sporting Goods and I.C.S. Team Leader. I am female and have felt discrimination against females for 15 years. I was a full time employee, worked off the clock for the bast**** and never complained. Until one day my feet and ankles gave out and I had to have reconstructive surgery on both feet and ankles (after 13 years of pounding the cement floors and climbing ladders that male employees were afraid to). | Read More
