Anonymous on Overtime and Sick Leave
“I do not send this plea for info for myself as much as I send it for the extraordinary people I have come to love working at Wal-Mart.
“I started, like everyone else did, believing in Sam Walton’s word. To our extreme disappointment, it has not lived past his death. I have seen managers chase employees that have clocked on to clock back off because they have an hour overtime. People have gotten written up because they were throwing up in a box on the sales floor and were not allowed to go home until their work was done. Might I add that it is usually enough work for two people and then some in an eight hour work day and you are left to do it day in and day out - ask anyone who works there. It is not the work; it is the fact that they are told to hurry so they may help others that are favored by management.
“Our sick leave is another point of contention. We are not paid for the first 8 hours we call out sick and they accept no doctor notes. My family is out a lot because of my diabetic son, so it adds up. I am just asking for my co-workers to be heard by someone, to know our rights as employees. Also to ask you how would you think morale would be in a place that constantly coddles the few favorites, who do less work and come in without appropriate work attire, mainly undergarments and then get employee of the month.
“We few are not asking for that. We just need answers and to know the reason why we are left exhausted demoralized and ashamed because we will not forsake our work ethics too.
“P.S. - Please know that all these issues and more have been notified to our management during their “grassroots” meetings and the conditions have gotten only worse. There is a strong belief that it was leaked to our assistant manager because of their attitude to the ones that complained.”
