Fired For Helping Teenage Daughter
I was a great worker and never was written up for anything; I left on good pretenses. After having to move down to Georgia due to my husband’s job, I applied to the Wal-Mart here in my neighborhood and was hired 11/2005. One of the assistant managers, Carol Newborn, never liked me for some reason unknown to me. In February, 2008 I told her that I would be late on some occasions due to a family matter: my teenage daughter had a drug problem and I was going to have to take her to drug treatment and to the doctor, etc. I was told by Carol Newborn (and I quote): she said “as long as you get here by 5:00 p.m. it’s alright”. I made the mistake of trusting her and not getting anything in writing and was fired 3 months later due to my tardies and attendance. She lied and said she didn’t know anything about my situation. I was unable to collect unemployment benefits, and now me and my family are in financial trouble, are about to lose our home and are in all kinds of debt. I thought Wal-Mart says they care about their employees and “family”, but all they care about is the almighty dollar.
