It’s time to abolish modern day slavery…

“This is my third year working at Wal-Mart. I started out as a cashier, that was all fine and dandy, but now I’m an overnight stocker. They work us to death. We have a ‘task manager’ that tells us how fast to complete our jobs. This task manager is like the bible. What it says goes or your job is on the line no matter how ridiculous the request. If it says you have five minutes to finish eight pallets of freight, then you have five minutes to finish eight pallets of freight.

Also, our attendance policy is horrible. I have a son who is sick all the time. If I have to take time off to take him to the hospital, I run into problems because Wal-Mart doesn’t think that a doctor’s slip is a reasonable excuse. After three unexcused absences in a 6-month period, you will be coached. Therefore, if you have to miss work, you must miss work for three or more days and have an FMLA form filled out. Wal-Mart has taken their open door policy and slammed it right back into our faces with the excuse for everything “there’s nothing I can do about it.” It’s time to abolish modern day slavery. Associates are no longer human; we are now just a number.”
