Open door policy DOES NOT work

“...we must give back that time to the company by taking an extra long lunch. When we do get holiday pay, they cut our hours by one whole day so that our pay is equivalent to a 40-hour regular pay without the holiday pay. Only the managers and department managers work 4-hour shifts on holidays so they can spend time with their families. The rest of us must work our full shift on holidays. When we request time off, it is not guaranteed, including our vacations and personal days. Our morale is at zero. If we call home office and use the open door, we MUST sign a paper stating that we went to the home office and used the open door policy. This in turn goes into your personal file. Our open door policy DOES NOT work. Our Grass Roots is a total JOKE! We CAN NOT form a union. We Will Be FIRED! IF a union is organized, they WILL close down the store! There is way too much back stabbing and back biting among the associates. I can not afford to have my daughters on my medical and dental insurance. They had to be on the CHIP program until they turned 18. My one daughter now works for Wal-Mart as a cashier part-time. My other daughter is still in school with no insurance. I can not afford nor take advantage of any of the other benefits Wal-Mart offers. We DO NOT get a cost of living increase. Our pay IS Lower than ALL of our competitors! There is NOTHING no one can do! It is hopeless and a lost cause!”
