“See What Happens When You Complain”
I had written several letters to upper management with signatures from most of the supervisors to try and get some help with our store managers. The name calling, the fooling around with associates in the freezers and other areas of the store, the favoritism, the drinking at Wal-Mart functions, etc. What did it get me? They fired all of the softlines department and then paraded us through the store as if to say “see what happens when you complain.” I have been in the retail business for 35 years and have never experienced anything so humiliating and degrading as when I was at Wal-Mart. Someone can use the “N” word to address another associate; she is still employed, but the soft lines department was fired for losing track of time and not punching out for dinner breaks on time. After working three 13 hour days trying to get ready for an inventory. While management walked around eating, sitting in the office with their feet up, or bouncing a ball at the back wall. [Our human resources person] was heard saying she could care less about the people at Wal-Mart it just looks good on her resume. A real caring company.
