Timing employees on how fast they run a pallet of freight is BS. A 60 year old cannot run freight as fast as a 20 year old. Who thought of this anyway? Probably some white shirted college grad who sits in an air-conditioned office and has nothing better to do than screw with us lowly employees and has never run a pallet of freight in his life. Speaking of air-conditioning…what’s that? By the time you get an hour into your shift you are soaking wet. I have a chronic condition and heat gets to me. More than once I have had to sit down and take my medication due to the excessive heat. A multi-billion dollar company that treats employees this way should be ashamed. Scheduling is another problem. Some get every weekend off while others have to work every single weekend and if you put in for a weekend off, even weeks before you want to take the time, you are 98% of the time rejected. Why don’t I leave? The same reason most Wal-Mart employees don’t go..there are no jobs to be had. I have never been so disillusioned with a company in my life. They run all of this hype about how great a company they are to work for. Get real. What they need to do is have an outside party interview everyday employees at every single Wal-Mart store in the US. Take a poll. 99.9% of us hate our jobs, hate our “superiors” who treat us like 3rd class citizens. Slave wages, slave work. Many of us have to work second jobs to be able to afford to eat and pay rent. Overtime is not allowed. Good grief, what are they doing with the 90 some billion they made last quarter? Oh and by the way, any current employees, the open door policy is a joke. Five minutes after you are taken into the office, like a bad second grader going to the principles office, it is all over the store why you were there. Most of the time it is for absences. I got coached for that. I had a note from the doctor, that was not accepted. In the state of North Carolina they cannot do that, and if they fire you for being out when you have a note from the doctor, you can collect unemployment.
And one more thing. If you have a major catastrophe in your life and need help through the hardship program, you can forget that too. Don’t even bother to apply, nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever come of it. As soon as you give them the papers they will smile in your face, walk away and toss them in the trash. I work there but I refuse to shop there. I will go to a competitor for my food and clothing. I work there because I have to. It is sure not because I enjoy my job and I’ll just bet you that most of the people who say they love Wal-Mart are management, not lowly associates. I leave my home and cry all the way to work because I hate it so bad. My sister also works at Wal-Mart and she hates it too. I would love it too if I made six figures a year. In a word Wal-Mart sucks. Sam Walton would be so ashamed of his family and the corporation. I hope this gets forwarded to the corporate office.
