Wal-Mart Cuts Hours, Benefits
“The employees at the Wal-Mart store I work at are angry about Wal-Mart cutting our hours because we are unable to further open our availability. Most of us have legitimate reasons for needing specific days off. We give up so much working overnight shifts; I don’t think its too much to ask to have the same days off every week. Our store has cut around 13 people that I know of, and that’s just overnighters. Management says it is to take care of the customer. Tell me: how is that taking care of their customers? They cut so many hours that they have a hard time getting the freight unloaded on time. This just doesn’t make sense.
“I have worked at Wal-Mart for 6 years and have never had any problem about getting my hours until now. I am a cashier and when all those customers complain, I will have them call the Corporate Offices’ 800 number and have them tell Corporate what they have done to us. I wouldn’t mind them cutting my hours if it didn’t also cost me all my benefits. I have to work 34 hours per week to keep them and they have begun to schedule me for less than that. What is so bad is that I just added my husband on my health insurance, which is about $80 more every 2 weeks.”
