Wal-Mart manager, “We will probably loose a lot of good people because of this.”
“...They had me for four hours for the whole week. I had been working 25 to 30 hours. Thinking it was just a mess up; I went to one of the assistant managers. He told me it was not a mistake, that Wal-Mart had changed the way they do scheduling. It was not done at the store level, rather it was done by corporate. My availability did not fit in their required slot. No one told me about this before. They should have notified me, and anyone else they did this to, at least a month ago as to how they were going to do this. Maybe they should have shared what these slots were and ask me if I could change my availability. Maybe I could have, maybe not, but common courtesy would have been nice, I ask him if there was anything that could be done. His comment was “We will probably loose a lot of good people because of this.” In other words, I better find another job. He did say I could MAYBE talk to someone about being a cashier because these Slots are more flexible. I have been in the workforce for 40 years and can say I have never been treated so badly. The only days I can change my schedule are Saturday & Sunday. The say they are the #1 retailer. I don’t agree in what their defination of #1 is. I am also a customer that has lost their paycheck. In my case a lot of the money I was making was being spent back at Wal Mart. They definitely need to change their employment ad from family and flexible to don’t give a damn.”
