Working at Wal-Mart is like working in a sweatshop
(2) Don’t even think about getting get sick at Wal-Mart. You could have a doctor’s note saying that you are highly contagious and should stay out of work, yet Wal-Mart says to your face “you will be fired if you don’t come to work even WITH a doctors note.” I work in a pharmacy and I deal with a lot of sick people. You would think the last thing Wal-Mart would want is for a sick/contagious employee to be coughing around the sick elderly…wrong…they don’t care!
(3) Wal-Mart is the number one retailer in the country with millions of dollars in revenue, yet their workers are paid a fraction of what other retail chains offer there employees. The retail store Sears starts employees out at $9 plus an hour, at Wal-Mart you are lucky to start above $7. After working a full 8-hour shift, you think you should get a 15-minute break? Well, Wal-Mart doesn’t think you should.
(4) Unfair/bias practices by supervisors: In my department last week, we were told we couldn’t wear a coat/jacket to work. Instead, we have to place and keep them in our locker (a coat fitting into a 6"x6” locker? NOT LIKELY…its winter and cold.) They will not even allow you to keep your jacket at your register. You have to keep it in your car when it is FREEZING OUTSIDE! Yet, your supervisor keeps there’s by them at all times. We were also told that we are not allowed to keep sodas near us, only “water.” The supervisors continuously walk around carrying their sodas. fair? NOT! We were also told that if we want to purchase something, we cannot hold it by our register until we clock out. Yet “my supervisor” keeps items by her register all the time. If you complain, prepare to get written up!
