Written Up Unfairly For “Altered Checks”

The check they let me go for was a payroll check I had cashed a month before. I was told by management that I “picked on young people” even though I don’t get my breaks. I trained four associates that week and was threatened by assistant manager Michelle. The reason: “In with the new and out with the old”. I’m 53 years old and have been doing retail for over 35 years. I did the service desk for over six years at Wal-Mart; there had to be more checks that came back than that one.

When I complained to management they would brush it off and make things worse for me. If someone complained to district management, they were asking to get fired, even though the policy says they can’t fire you for contacting district. I’ve lost a lot; it has taken six months to get my husband, who is disabled, back on social security. Since he was always carried on my insurance I felt like I was discriminated against because of my age and knowledge, and complained about what was going on. The only thing Wal-Mart has done is to promote associates if they frame you, and management will cover it up. My family does not like to shop at that Wal-Mart now even though it’s close to my house because they are followed around, even though my grandson is crippled and on oxygen that he can’t carry.
