You are not allowed to get sick…
I used to work for Walmart Store #1037 in summerville SC, I was recently terminated (Nov 29th 2008) because I was 1 to 3 minutes slate 3 times in 8 months. This store has issues with how they treat employees. Even though I was a Lawn and Garden sales associate, I was forced to push carts in the rain on many occasions and I was forced to use a fork lift that was unsafe to operate and without a spotter (which is company policy). I pulled the tendon in my leg pushing carts and when I asked to go to the doctor, I was written up for it because management said it was my fault.
After I was written up, I was told by store management “YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GET SICK”. But because I worked outside in the cold, I would often get sick. I got notes from my doctor, but I was told the notes are not excused absences unless they are from the workmens’ compensation doctor.
The last night I worked, the assistant manager told me to hang up x-mas trees in the rain. The moment I was was finished hanging trees, I was called to the office and terminated. Throughout my time there, I took many issues to the store manager only to have them fall on deaf ears. The good old boy system is alive and well and nothing can be done about it! The way this store treats its
employees is unspeakable. They want you to have no life other than Wal-Mart and they DO NOT care if you have a family (I have a disabled wife) and 2 kids (ages 8 and 11).
